Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Day 2024

Joey and Marina joined Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) on February 7 for Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Day in Olympia. Members of Grupo de Solidaridad met with their elected officials to advocate for unemployment insurance for undocumented workers and health equity for immigrants, along with a $25M budget proviso to support newly arriving migrants.

As a follow up, there are two ways we need you to take action this week:

Rep. Gregerson and Sen. Hasegawa have submitted the $25M budget proviso for the state Office of Refugee & Immigrant Assistance within the Dept. of Social and Human Services to support newly arriving migrants, but we need to add pressure so this funding is added to the state budget. Right now, the Senate version only includes $5M, and the House version includes the full $25M.

Send a letter to the Senate Ways & Means Committee to ask for support of this budget proviso and to increase the amount to $25M.

WAISN is taking this issue back to lawmakers in Olympia! Join them for a rally in Olympia on Wednesday, February 21 from 12-3pm to tell legislators that we will not accept any cuts to our priorities. Sign up here if you are interested in attending.
