WAISN Membership Convening & Steering Committee Meeting
Last week, leaders of WAISN member organizations from over 20 counties met in Yakama Nation for the 3-day Membership Convening. The Church Council of Greater Seattle made important connections with organizations in the immigration organizing ecosystem.
The main purpose of the convening was to consider priorities for 2025, learn about and sustain deportation defense, and build relationships. The following priorities were identified:
Expansion of health care and health insurance
Housing for immigrants
Access to financing, education and economic opportunities
Protection of migrant workers
Immigration reform and pathways to citizenship
The following Tuesday, the Church Council provided space for the WAISN Steering Committee meeting where we discussed legislative priorities for 2025 and considered implications of the November election. Stay tuned for ways you can get involved prior to the next legislative session!
