Grupo de Solidaridad Update and Invitation

During the last meeting of Grupo de Solidaridad, valuable experiences and testimonies were shared about the crises forcing thousands of people to migrate. Here are some of the key points mentioned by members:

  • Adriana: Spoke about the situation in Venezuela, where political repression, election manipulation, and widespread scarcity are severely affecting the working population. Wages are so low that they barely allow for survival, while the wealthy continue to amass more wealth. Nevertheless, despite the political repression and scarcity, people continue to fight with admirable strength. Communities in Venezuela are enduring and migrating constantly. These are tough times, and unity and mutual support for migrants are essential.

  • A member from Nicaragua: Shared about the difficult situation in Nicaragua, where since 2019 the government has been shutting down churches and social projects, leaving religious communities in uncertainty. Additionally, several pastors and evangelists have been imprisoned without trial, raising deep concerns about their well-being. Many families are opting to migrate due to unemployment and lack of opportunities.

  • The group in general: Issued a call for solidarity and support, highlighting the need for prayer and action for those suffering from oppression and violence in their home countries. The group continues to be a beacon of hope for people going through these crises and meets once a month to further its educational and organizational efforts.

With these testimonies in mind, we invite you to participate in our "Understanding Forced Migration" forum, where the causes of forced migration will be discussed, and how we can support those who are compelled to leave their homes.

We hope to see you there as we continue to strengthen our support of migrants.
