Weaving Our Strengths | Tejiendo Nuestras Fuerzas
On Saturday, September 9, from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM, join us at Plymouth Church for Weaving Our Strengths: a day of workshops and reflection on the organizing practices and anti-racism values that have undergirded our transition to faith-rooted community organizing work over the last seven years. We will end the day with a Special Called Assembly to affirm and celebrate our new Bylaws and install our new Co-Executive Directors.

Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training
One of the key shifts the Church Council has made over the past few years has been to regularly reflect on how our work upholds white dominant values and to move toward antiracism values. We know centering communities impacted by systemic oppression is the only way toward liberation. Crossroads has mentored us in this work, and we use their antiracism values and continuum materials as the baseline for our organizing work in the community. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the Crossroads antiracism values and continuum and begin to reflect on how you can use these resources to shape your community toward liberative practices.
Faith Communities Supporting Organized Labor
The Church Council envisions a future where justice is realized. We are glad to be a partner with local unions in their efforts to amplify the voices of working families and improve our local communities. Just this year, we have joined in the efforts for higher wages and benefits for grocery workers, janitors, and healthcare workers. Join us for a panel discussion highlighting the voices from local organized labor efforts on how faith communities can support and show up for working families in Seattle.
Immigration Organizing – Grupo de Solidaridad
The idea behind this workshop is that we as a group can reaffirm our commitment to solidarity with the immigrant population of our community, now that we are under the coverage of the The Church Council of Greater Seattle. The situations faced by immigrants are always significantly difficult to overcome, making external support a need. Through this workshop we aim to identify new support techniques, committing to maintain the connections of solidarity towards the immigrant community, our brothers, sisters, and siblings.
Lessons in Discernment from the Faith Land Initiative
The Faith Land Initiative (FLI) convenes, facilitates, and accompanies faith communities in King County, Washington to faithfully and equitably steward land and other assets toward acts of community stewardship of land. Discernment is the first step in taking transformative action. Hear faith communities from the Faith Land Initiative network reflect on the impact discernment has had in their efforts to transform faith-owned land. There will be a short presentation on FLI, followed by a moderated panel discussion, and Q&A. Please come with questions!
Lecciones de Discernimiento de la Faith Land Initiative
El Faith Land Initiative (FLI, por sus siglas) convoca, facilita y acompaña a las comunidades de fe en el Condado de King, Washington para administrar fiel y equitativamente la tierra y otros activos con mira a actos de administración comunitaria de la tierra. El discernimiento es el primer paso para tomar medidas transformadoras. Escuche a las comunidades de fe de la red Faith Land Initiviative reflexionar sobre el impacto que ha tenido el discernimiento en sus esfuerzos por transformar las tierras de propiedad religiosa. Organización y Capacitación de Antirracismo Crossroads
Uno de los cambios principales que ha realizado el Church Council en los últimos años ha sido reflexionar regularmente sobre cómo nuestro trabajo defiende los valores dominantes de los blancos y avanzar hacia valores antirracistas. Sabemos que centrar a las comunidades impactadas por la opresión sistémica es el único camino hacia la liberación. Crossroads nos ha asesorado en este trabajo y utilizamos sus valores antirracistas y secuencia de materiales como base para nuestro trabajo organizativo en la comunidad. En este taller se le presentarán los valores y la secuencia antirracista de Crossroads y comenzará a reflexionar sobre cómo puede utilizar estos recursos para moldear su comunidad hacia prácticas de liberación.
Organización de Inmigración – Grupo de Solidaridad
La idea de realizar este taller es que podamos reafirmar nuestro compromiso como grupo solidaridad, ahora bajo la cobertura del Church Council of Seattle, con la población Migrante de nuestra comunidad. Pues la situación que enfrentan es siempre es difícil, sigue vigente la necesidad de apoyo es real. A través de esta jornada queremos identificar nuevas formas de apoyo y comprometernos a mantener extendidos los lazos de solidaridad hacia la comunidad migrante que también son nuestros hermanos.
Comunidades de Fe que Apoyan el Trabajo Organizado
El Church Council visualiza un futuro en el que se realiza la justicia. Nos complace ser socios de los sindicatos locales en sus esfuerzos por amplificar las voces de las familias trabajadores y mejorar nuestras comunidades locales. Precisamente este año, nos hemos unido a los esfuerzos por lograr salarios y beneficios más altos para los trabajadores de supermercados, conserjes y trabajadores de cuidado médico. Únase a nosotros para un panel de discusión que destaca las voces de los esfuerzos laborales organizados locales sobre cómo las comunidades de fe pueden apoyar a las familias trabajadores en Seattle.
