Folks, WHEEL and our partners have moved heaven and earth to get organized and beat the extreme weather. We’re planning to open the new WHEEL women’s shelter at First Presbyterian (entrance at 715 Spring Street) AT 8 PM TONIGHT (FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH)!!! For now, the shelter is open night-time only (8 PM to 8 AM) but we’re building strength and staffing as fast as we can to convert to 24-hour operations.
IF you’re a woman needing shelter, you can come any time, any night, TONIGHT (Friday, February 12th) or thereafter, AT or AFTER 8 PM. PLEASE no early arrivals or hanging out in the neighborhood—our future and relationships rely on our being a good neighbor!
IF you have donations to drop off, or a couple hours to help us set up and unload supplies/materials, we’re doing an informal WORK PARTY at the new space (715 Spring Street) from 1 to 4 PM TOMORROW (Friday). We understand the snows might’ve REALLY started flying by then—please take all due precautions.
IF you have questions, call the WHEEL Office at (206) 956-0334, or email
wheelorg@yahoo.com. We’ve been heartened and overwhelmed by community support. Please forgive us if we cannot respond right away
Our biggest needs at the moment are blankets and individually-packaged breakfast items and snacks, and coffee/sugar/creamer.
Around a dozen of us WHEEL Women in Black stood a solemn vigil yesterday for 13 beloved homeless people who died outside/in public/by violence in King County already this year. Without shelter, people die. That’s why we’re so grateful to be opening this important WHEEL shelter. But much more shelter for many more people is needed—please keep crying out for shelter and housing for all.
Your support and solidarity mean the world. Thank you.
