Rolling Stone says “Newcomer’s material asks all the right questions and refuses to settle for easy answers.” The Austin-American Statesman terms her voice “an instrument as dark, rich, and luscious as Godiva chocolate.” As a contemplative Quaker and activist, she has emerged as a prominent voice for inclusive spirituality. Newcomer collaborates closely with the author Parker Palmer on powerful responses to our fractured time.
Newcomer’s appearance will feature her recent release, The Point of Arrival. She says it is about “living in times where we are asked to be better people than we ever thought we would need to be…In times like these, where do we find our grounding? I’ve been an activist all my adult life. But anger only gets you so far. And fear only gets you so far—then you burn out or you get immobilized. What we need to ask is: Where is my true compass? What’s true north? As we walk through troubled times together—whether they’re politically troubled times or our own personal troubled times—how do we keep walking with a strong center and a spiritual grounding?”
Newcomer’s appearance is produced by Spirit Workshops, a collaboration of people who learn and act together on the path to becoming more real. Additional support comes from the Adult Education Endowment of University Congregational United Church of Christ, making it possible for all who wish to attend.
