Please join our dear friends at First AME Church for a community-wide celebration of the life of national statesman and long-time esteemed member of the United States Congress, the Honorable Elijah Cummings. The Church Council of Greater Seattle is pleased to support and participate in this significant moment in the life of our community.
This service of recognition and remembrance will highlight the career, caliber, and accomplishments of this great champion for civil rights and social and political justice. All are invited: members of the faith-based community; civic and public servants; local, county, state, and U.S. officials; community partners and community-based organizations; and people of conscience and concern.
This will be both a celebration and a Call to Action, as we prepare to vote by Tuesday, November 5. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal will offer a special memorial message in honor of her colleague in the House of Representatives. We hope that all will be inspired to get involved with locally, to make a difference and to be a positive influence for those living on the margins of our neighborhoods.
There will be a freewill offering to support the efforts of the I-1000 Initiative on our ballot, also known as Referendum Measure No. 88. Also note, this will not be a “political rally” but rather a gathering where we will put aside our differences and honor a man to whom honor is due. Please see the details below:
